Book review: Harry Potter
and the Cursed Child
By Scott Angilly
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is a play set 19 years after the original Harry Potter series. Harry lives in London as a middle-aged man working at the Ministry of Magic. The play focuses mainly on his teenage son Albus Severus Potter who has a difficult time dealing with the expectations as a member of the Potter family.
The play begins at the end of the Harry Potter series where Harry and his friend are watching their kids go off to their first years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The Cursed Child is centered around Albus and his best friend Scorpius (the son of Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series). During their later years at Hogwarts they encounter dark forces that may be connected with Voldemort, the Dark Lord. They both play a role in dealing with these dark forces that threaten the fate of the planet.
Written by Jack Thorne, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is a book version of the script of the play that opened in London. However, it is based on a story written by J.K. Rowling.
As it’s written in script form as opposed to a novel it’s not as detailed as J.K. Rowling’s original Harry Potter series. Despite the lesser amount of details, Harry Potter fans will have no problem formulating a world of imagination in their head.

At Olympos Diner, it’s homemade breakfast, soups, burgers, and more
By Sam Hurlburt
If you like to eat at diners with large menus filled with lots of delicious options, then the Olympos Diner is for you! The Olympos Diner, located on 1130 East Main Street, Meriden, opened 37 years ago, in 1980, by Elias Biros. Before opening the diner, Elias worked as a painter in the summer and as a dishwasher in the winter. Once he saved enough money, he opened this diner, which happened to be on St. Patrick’s Day. A few years ago, Elias’ son, Athanasios, took over the business, to continue his father’s legacy.
Athanasios, also known as Tom, makes all of the diner’s food with his staff, as he wants to make sure that every dish is delicious and up to his standards, and his friendly and helpful staff provide great service. I asked Tom some questions about him and his diner. He told me that the most popular dish is both his corned beef hash, which is made fresh daily, and his soups, which are both my favorites too. His freshly ground beef burgers are also very popular and delicious. Tom also mentioned that the busiest day for the diner is Saturday, but that Wednesdays are also very busy. Tom is friendly and also loves interacting with customers as much as he loves to cook.
Although the food, staff, and atmosphere are amazing, the desserts are the real highlight of the diner. The desserts are made daily by Tom, and range from rich chocolate mousse and refreshing yogurt parfaits, to creamy cheesecakes and flavorful pies that are amazing for such a small place. Every option is equally delicious, so you really can’t go wrong when trying to decide. I recently had a cheesecake after my meal that had chocolate and caramel sauce on it, along with an Oreo crust, and was the greatest cheesecake I have ever eaten.
In 2013, the New Haven Register ran a program where they voted for the best breakfast spot in Connecticut. After voting on lots of diners and restaurants, the Olympos Diner came out on top against lots of other great breakfast spots. This was the last time this program was held, but I do believe that if the program ran again, The Olympos Diner would win again.
I hope you give this place a try as you will not be disappointed, and you will definitely enjoy it.
